What Parents, Teens & Providers often Ask

For Children

I work with kids facing anxiety, OCD, separation fears, school refusal, excessive worries, perfectionism, and big emotions that feel hard to manage. Using evidence-based approaches like CBT, ERP, ACT and SPACE, I help kids build confidence and coping tools one small step at a time.

Many kids who are feeling anxiety resist therapy at first. I use gentle engagement, play, creativity, and choice to help children feel safe and curious about the process. My goal is to meet your child where they are, never forcing participation, but inviting connection.

And if your child is too young, unmotivated, or not ready to participate, I can still help through SPACE (Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions). This approach works directly with parents to reduce anxiety-supporting behaviors at home and create change  even without your child attending sessions.

Yes. I believe therapy works best when parents are part of the process. Depending on your child’s needs, you may join early sessions, receive tools to use at home, or have dedicated parent sessions so the entire family can support progress.

Every child’s needs are unique, but most families start noticing meaningful changes within 3-4 months with sessions held weekly. I’ll work with you to create a personalized care plan and check in regularly to ensure therapy is practical, effective, and responsive to your child’s pace.

That’s okay. You don’t need one to start. Our first sessions focus on understanding your child’s needs, worries, and behaviors so we can decide together if therapy like CBT, ERP, or SPACE will be most helpful.

Yes, when appropriate and with your permission. I collaborate with teachers, school counselors, or pediatricians to ensure your child receives consistent support across environments.

If anxiety, fears, or rituals are interfering with your child’s daily life like school, friendships, or family routines then it may be time for support. It’s helpful to not wait for things to feel “serious enough.” Early support can make all the difference.

I see children 7 and up, as well as parents seeking guidance for younger kids through SPACE (Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions). Therapy looks different at every age and younger kids often learn through play and stories.

You’re not alone. Many parents come in feeling the same way. The difference is how we work: evidence-based tools like ERP, CBT, ACT and mindfulness based  techniques combined with warmth, creativity, and genuine connection. It’s not about “fixing” your child but it’s about helping them grow with confidence and courage.

For many kids, yes. Online sessions can be a comfortable and an effective way to work on anxiety or OCD especially when doing exposures.Since exposures happen right in their home setting, we can practice facing fears where they actually occur. I use playful methods to keep kids engaged through the screen, and for some children, being in their own space helps them feel braver and more confident.

That said, for some children with higher activity levels or attention challenges, in-person therapy may be a better fit. We’ll decide together what feels right for your child and the goal is always what helps them connect and grow best.

For Teens

That fear makes sense. OCD often attacks what matters most to you. You’re not alone, and nothing you say will shock me. Together, we’ll use ERP to face the intrusive thoughts safely and reduce their power, without judgment or shame.

That happens often. My first goal is not to convince you, but to get curious with you. I’ll never force vulnerability before you’re ready. Whether it’s through conversation, humor, or skill-building, we’ll work at your pace  until therapy starts to feel like your space, not someone else’s idea.

If you’re absolutely not ready to join sessions, I can work with your parents through the SPACE program (Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions). They’ll learn how to support you without adding pressure, which often helps my teen clients feel ready to take part in therapy later.

It depends on your goals, consistency with practising skills outside of therapy, and what’s happening in life. Some teens start to feel better after 3-4 months; others stay longer to build deeper skills. Therapy is collaborative and we’ll set goals, track progress, and make sure each step feels useful.

Both. I see clients in-person in Campbell, California, and virtually across the state. Some teens prefer the comfort of home; others like the in-person energy. Either way, you’ll get the same evidence-based care.

Yes. Absolutely. In fact, ERP (Exposure and Response Prevention), the gold-standard treatment for OCD, and exposures done for other kinds of anxiety translates beautifully to online sessions.

Because exposures happen in your real environment that is your room, using school materials, or involving home routines, we can target anxiety exactly where it shows up day to day. Teens often feel more relaxed and open online, making it easier to practice real-life tools in real time.

With secure video sessions and structured plans, online ERP is not only effective, it’s often more natural and empowering.

That’s totally okay. You don’t need to have the right words. We can talk, write, draw, or even talk about stuff that feels comfortable for you. My job is to make this space feel real and safe, not awkward or forced.

That’s exactly what therapy helps with. We’ll figure it out together by learning how your mind and body react to stress, worry, or intrusive thoughts. You don’t need a diagnosis to receive support.

For older teens, therapy is teen space first. But when it helps teens and when teens are on board, I’ll include parents in short check-ins or strategy sessions so teens can have support at home too. My goal is to balance independence and connection helping teens and parents work as a team. I do give parents general updates about goals and progress, making sure my teen clients are aware and comfortable first.

That’s okay. Some teens need time before they’re ready to open up. In those cases, I work directly with parents through SPACE (Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions). It’s a structured, research-backed approach that helps parents reduce anxiety accommodations and foster readiness for change even if their teen isn’t in the room yet.

For Parents

SPACE is effective for parents of children and teens ages 6–18. It’s especially helpful when a child is too young, resistant, or anxious to participate in therapy themselves  but parents still want to help.

That’s the beauty of it. Research shows that when parents change their own responses to anxiety, kids often improve even if they never come to a single session. In SPACE, we identify accommodations (the ways anxiety quietly shapes family routines), then replace them with supportive steps that help your child build resilience to anxiety inducing situations.

SPACE isn’t about blaming or fixing parenting. It’s about understanding the anxiety cycle and giving parents practical ways to break it without battles, guilt, or power struggles. It’s not general parenting advice; it’s a structured, evidence-based protocol designed specifically for anxiety and OCD in kids and teens.

That’s ideal! SPACE works best when both caregivers are on the same page. You can attend sessions together, or one of you can take the lead while the other joins for key discussions. The goal is consistency, not perfection.

Most families notice shifts within 8–12 sessions, though it depends on how entrenched the anxiety patterns have become. The changes often start small but they build momentum as confidence grows on both sides.

You’re not alone. Many parents come to SPACE feeling like they’ve exhausted every option. What’s different here is where the work happens: instead of trying to get your child to change, I help you shift your approach in ways that spark new patterns. It’s empowering, not exhausting.

Fees, Insurance, Scheduling

$300 for each 45-50 minute session.

Peekaboo operates as a private-pay practice, which allows me to provide highly personalized, evidence-based care without the restrictions or requirements that come with insurance networks.

Many families choose this model for the flexibility and privacy it offers which includes longer sessions when needed, focused parent collaboration, and treatment decisions made purely for your child’s wellbeing.

If you have insurance, you may still be able to get partial reimbursement through your plan’s out-of-network benefits. I’ll provide a superbill (receipt) you can submit directly to your insurance company and can guide you on what questions to ask to check your coverage before starting.

This approach helps keep therapy centered on your family’s needs and not on insurance limitations.

Yes, absolutely. There’s no cost or obligation to book ongoing sessions. It’s simply a space to learn, ask, and explore whether this feels like the right next step for your family.

That’s completely okay. The consultation call is the best place to explore that. We’ll talk through your concerns, possible approaches (including SPACE for parents), and what support might look like even if we decide to start small.

You’re welcome to. You can reach out through the contact form if you’re unsure whether a consult is needed. I’m happy to guide you toward the best next step.

Life happens! You can reschedule through your confirmation email or simply reply to let me know. I just ask for at least 24 hours’ notice whenever possible, so I can offer that time to another family waiting.
